Miączynek demands access to the sea

The idea for such unusual selvedges was born in the winter during an evening watching a series set in the Caribbean. Between scenes, there were often views with the seashore in the background and palm trees in the foreground. As much as the colors of the yarns and my imagination allowed me, I conveyed the impression.

This is one of the more enjoyable experiments. I am very happy that I discovered a new way of arranging the warp threads for me – the background came out uneven. In addition, it is a good idea to use a gray weft – it becomes quite discreet at the edge and gives a nice shadow under the pattern.

Some people travel with their finger on the map… I have my version of discovering new lands in difficult times.

I would like to take breaks from professional weaving more often, so that something more creative can arise in my studio. More ideas are already waiting to be realized…

  • A few colorful strips

Where did I end up…? A pistachio-cherry creation. However, I’ve been weaving a bit lately and have created a few selvedges, none of which have yet had a separate blog premiere (at most, they’ve been in a spoiler). Now, they’ll all be presented at once 🙂 All the selvedges are made of pure tapestry wool. So they’re quite thick and stiff. As usual…

  • Second green series

I finished the green yarn, and the yarn finished me. This time I didn't touch up the colors, so that you could compare how I see these selvedges and how the camera sees them 😉 The warp is the same as in the case of the brown selvedges. So this series is a bit wider than the previous green ones. The swastikas fit in elegantly. I also went a step further in the variations...

  • This year's patterned

Recently I have created a lot of simpler selvedges, but I have also made a few spun ones. They all have patterns from finds and are in the form of stripes. Plain weave, picking technique, and the raw material is wool. I had additional trouble with the first selvedge – I wove it on a yoke loom at shows in variable conditions 🙂 Birka B12, Sweden Birka B12, Sweden Birka B2,…

  • Warm browns

I present a variation on the find from Ostrówek in Opole. I chose a harmonious color scheme of warm browns. I modified the pattern, leaving the grosgrain weave in the middle. The rows are tightly compressed, so the selvedge is quite stiff and solid, and it came out wider than I expected for the number of threads in the warp (3.4 cm). I managed to break the length record and came out 8.6 m….
