What the eyes don’t see…

On the day of the publication of the previous post, I was optimistic and full of energy. We enthusiastically started planting fruit trees that we had bought earlier. Unfortunately, our orchard-growing aspirations turned into pseudo-archaeological excavations. What had previously looked like an idyllic, weedy meadow turned out to be a former garbage dump.

Bricks from a Romanesque castle, a halberd and a padlock from a chastity belt 😉

We worked for quite a long time to remove the rubbish and managed to clean only a few meters of the surface right next to the planted trees. There is no difference in appearance and from the outside the orchard seems nice, but the awareness of the junk is unpleasant.

This seemingly minor matter contributed to many deeper (I think) reflections, although most of them left unanswered questions. Am I doomed to clean up after someone else in my own house? …even though I can’t clean up after myself. Is it my mission to fix what someone else has ruined? And how much have I ruined already? Should I dig into things that look good to expose the ugly truth, or would I rather not know about it? And if I do dig, should I try to fix it, or try to forget and pretend that it’s supposed to be that way? How does the thoughtless nature of man affect the lives of others? Or maybe it gives the meaning of gaining humility. Is the old mess that emerges here and there a testament to development and progress, or just ordinary straw from shoes?

The above issues do not exhaust the scope of my thoughts, but they lead to the most important question at the moment about the meaning of this blog. I have lost motivation somewhere, and I lack determination. I am aware that some of the content is outdated or quite weak. Will removing what I no longer like be like removing garbage, or maybe it would be better to cover it with something new and nicer?

For now, the blog will do whatever I want, and I sincerely advise my dear readers – close your eyes 🙂

  • Buttons – haberdashery for reenactors

My latest tailoring feats are late medieval men's clothing – doublet, cothehardie, robe… On this occasion I made a few handfuls of typical haberdashery accessories 🙂 In the Middle Ages – in addition to buttons cast from metal – textile buttons were used, i.e. made from a piece of fabric. And no wonder – such buttons are also used today, although not very often. Buttons are made of:…

I invite you to Rękawka. For details, please visit (click) – the website of the Podgórze Cultural Center. As part of the preparations, I made 2 warps for bardko. I deliberately do not show what is slowly being created from them – it is something different than what I have usually weaved so far. I finally sewed myself new dresses. One of thick natural linen, which I trimmed with Opole lace. The other…

  • Basket from the Noteć River

I was tempted to make myself a small basket. Since the woven rods are very durable, I decided to go to the water to look for material. It’s not exactly where I collected long green leaves, but I want to convey the mood of the place 😉 Although you can’t see the entire beautiful Noteć floodplain. In the autumn, I brought myself leaves and dried them. It’s not a water cattail, nor is it calamus…

  • I am spinning

…with a very small “pe”. I carved the spindle myself, but it’s not very crooked 😉 The spindle is perfectly balanced, because it was bought from Lepiglina. The shop-bought top is ready. The results? Sometimes the spindle turns, sometimes it doesn’t, it spins sideways, untwists, falls, the yarn breaks, “pillows” form, or the thread is extremely thin. And the phenomenon: a complete lack of frustration from failures. A few…

  • Lately…

I had another break 🙂 A very fruitful one 😉 I have Rękawka, a few private matters, and recently a May Day holiday in Biskupin. This is what my textile arrangement looked like: The photo was taken by Kasia, and her company made my time more pleasant – greetings 🙂 The photo also shows bagpipes and fiddles – of course they are not mine. Kasia plays old…
