Krajka in a new place

The selvedge I’m presenting today is quite exceptional. I started it at the beginning of summer and I wasn’t in any hurry to finish it – I was testing a small inkle loom, which is very handy and a selvedge that has been started doesn’t bother anyone. I was also testing new yarns – new to me, because unfortunately the manufacturer stopped production. The most important thing is that I finished it in a new place. We’ve had another move, this time maybe we’ll live here longer. I took advantage of the beautiful August weather and weaved sitting on the stairs to my future – currently present 😉 – studio.

I took the photo in our garden, and the background for the border is holly. The pattern is one of the classic motifs found in Norwegian folk tapes, as well as in Sokółka borders. The resulting strip is over 2.5 m long and 3 cm wide.

Finally, a bonus – my beloved looms survived another kangaroo journey. I also have a photo taken after adding other things, showing our nomadic capabilities, but the looms are no longer visible 😉

Last year I decided to put a bit more threads on the very, design a more complicated pattern, weave a piece and leave such a half-finished selvedge to show the technique of weaving. My presentation lasted even 2 months, but I couldn't stop weaving and had to rework the entire warp. In September I made myself a second warp to show weaving techniques during…

  • Brown series again

This is the second series of brown stripes. The number of threads and the arrangement are the same as before. The patterns are different, because I try never to repeat myself. It's a waste of time, and there are so many ideas. Weaving from coarse yarn is laborious and a bit off-putting. The effect is quite interesting, so that's the only reason I didn't throw the wool in the farthest corner, so...

  • Brown Series

The material crisis has passed with the arrival of a full bundle of yarn. The colors will now be quite natural, and the selvedges will be difficult, because the wool is hard and rough. If so, I will make it more difficult and make the selvedges very patterned. I only wonder what my hands will look like after working through the whole bundle – maybe I will find a way to make the most effective peeling in the world. Each…

  • This year's patterned

Recently I have created a lot of simpler selvedges, but I have also made a few spun ones. They all have patterns from finds and are in the form of stripes. Plain weave, picking technique, and the raw material is wool. I had additional trouble with the first selvedge – I wove it on a yoke loom at shows in variable conditions 🙂 Birka B12, Sweden Birka B12, Sweden Birka B2,…

  • Norwegian salmon with eggplant in cream

If anyone is wondering what to make for dinner today, or how to prepare the salmon they just bought, and ended up here, I apologize for the confusion, because the post is about the recently woven lace 😉 Gardening tip: remove faded hydrangea inflorescences in spring – they may come in handy in winter 😉 I don’t know much about colors, and especially…
