Vertical weight looms

I planned to post some photos of my looms to illustrate the story of their creation, but uncle Google does such wonders with searches that I didn’t want to give him any more reasons to mix and match. People looking for information about looms and weaving might be horrified…
I will only tell you that initially the looms consisted of several joists, which were the object of mockery of a certain Lord Sanepid 😉 Before I put the warp on, the construction standing in the room also amused two friends with wandering associations and an absurd sense of humor. Since I did not have clay weights, I used a herd of several-inch nails, a few larger screws and similar scrap to tighten the warp. At that time, I had to defend the looms from DIY enthusiasts…

Fortunately, the entire evolution took place in the comfort of one’s home – the public premiere of the looms took place only when they became relatively “historical”.

  • I'm still learning

I'm just jumping from one YouTube video to another and I'm finding a ton of interesting stuff. Some phenomenally clever chick is showing the principles of weaving on a horizontal loom. I wish I had thought of those obvious solutions. Her method of setting up a half-harness is much simpler than the one I saw in Professor Turnau's book. A horizontal loom is a distant dream to me,…

  • The most valuable weaving loom

Today I present my most valuable weaving loom. Unfortunately, its historicity is a constant matter of dispute. Archaeological finds confirm the presence of such tools, but there is still no reliable study on their use in textiles. I suspect that there is a kind of scientific taboo in this area. Numerous, although fragmentarily preserved, relics are kept in secret warehouses and specially protected….

  • Selvedge on sticks

The lack of a bard is not a problem. I present a selvedge woven on two sticks: One of the sticks is a half-harness, to which half of the warp is attached. When it is lifted, a shed is created. The second stick – slightly thicker – separates the threads, but is not attached to them. The red thread only prevents it from falling out. This thicker stick is located exactly…

  • Patterned selvedges

I get questions about how to weave patterns on a bardek. Especially for those interested, I decided to prepare a pseudo-guide. Supposedly, because it certainly won't be professional 😀 When you delve into the subject of weaving, you are amazed. The wealth of patterns and colors of fabrics is just the tip of the iceberg of delights available to everyone. Somehow these threads cross. Not by themselves - someone...

  • In the meantime

I decided to make a selvedge that would match the striped pattern woven long ago on vertical looms. I have an idea about the final product, but its execution will have to wait for its turn and an even greater split time. 21.35 m selvedge1:07 riding time12 km distance Unfortunately, I don't ride a bike - it was just a one-time trip to soothe. In the meantime, Mrs. Winter is giving me...

  1. Eee, why do you think we immediately had associations with a stand for wicked games? 😀

And why didn't you let me make clay dumbbells after the first attempt? 🙂

And the looms are amazing – especially when you see them in action 🙂

  2. Hello. I have been looking for information about vertical crowns and their operation for a long time - the latter may sound funny, but without explaining it in layman's terms I can't imagine it. Maybe you will be tempted to write a know-how entry?
