Classes in a given topic will be conducted by competent people who, in addition to presenting the work technique, will enrich the meetings with stories about the history of their craft and contemporary, original ideas. NATIONAL WORKSHOPS IN BARDKI

Selvedges, also known as belts, tapes, braids or pasamony. The first ones were probably created in the Neolithic period. For centuries, they served practical, symbolic and aesthetic functions. Such an important, yet almost invisible everyday item. Selvedges have come a long way in evolution to finally come into common use in the form of machine-woven belts. Fortunately, there are places where they are still hand-woven. Selvedges are also a very popular product among people involved in historical reconstruction and recreation, mainly of medieval material culture. Selvedges are also a great way to get to know weaving techniques and develop textile and historical passions. The course is designed for both beginners and experienced weavers. Each subsequent class is a higher level of difficulty, but at the same time flexibly adapted to the abilities of the participants.

Types of selvedges made:

plain – simple single-colour or coloured selvedges;

grosgrain – a variation in the weave of smooth selvedges;

extended – higher degree of difficulty in execution, but greater possibilities of creating patterns;

sprang – selvedges created without tools using the net technique.

Scope of classes:

an introduction to weaving and a presentation of the possibilities of creating selvedges;

design including pattern idea and planning of material use;

preparing the warp and weaving the bard;

weaving – the actual part, including techniques that facilitate work and improve skills;

selvedge finishes.

All items made remain the property of the participant.

All materials are provided by SztukaPuka Studio.
