Tricolor

Today, I am happy and proud to present new technically and visually advanced selvedges 🙂

I have long wondered whether the warp pulling method can be used to obtain more colourful selvedges. Up until now I have been weaving two-colour patterns. Of course I am ignoring the fact that the warp can be divided lengthwise into stripes of different colours. I made a few drawings then and came to the unfortunate conclusion that my combinations would not bring a good aesthetic effect. Fortunately, however, another haberdasher had more courage and successfully weaves fantastic multi-colour selvedges. I am following her noble example 🙂

At first I had to familiarize myself with the method, so the first selvedge has a simpler pattern. There is a lot of plain background and alternating motifs of something that reminds me of scarabs. By the second selvedge I already knew how to combine colors and made something like flowers with leaves. Additionally, a triangular ending, as suggested by a friend 🙂

Both selvedges are made on one warp, so their width is the same, i.e. 4.2 cm. The length of the first is 2.5 m, and the second 2.7 m.
