Birka patterns my way
After the exam, I felt like repeating a pattern from Birka. I like a few of them in particular, and this time I decided to play with combining motifs. I chose two fragments from two finds and added a connector of my own to fill the background.
I wove using a yoke loom, because the pattern required the use of a large number of warp threads. The width came out quite large – almost 7 cm. The length is 2 meters with fringes. The originals were much narrower and made using tablets, and the pattern was created by a gold brocade thread in the weft. My entire interpretation very loosely refers to the relic.
Oh, now I see green 😉 Still beautiful.
Thanks for your help. The "auto-color" function in the program also proved useful 🙂
