The most valuable weaving loom

Today I present my most valuable weaving loom. Unfortunately, its historicity is a constant matter of dispute. Archaeological finds confirm the presence of such tools, but there is still no reliable study on their use in textiles. I suspect that there is a kind of scientific taboo in this area. Numerous, although fragmentarily preserved, relics are kept in secret warehouses and specially protected. The documentation is probably subject to censorship, and may even be written in code.

Is it possible to weave on such a loom?

P.S. The joke ends where someone starts using weaving sticks. It gets serious when someone writes to this instructions.

I once came across this interesting video – a clever weaving technique on an inkle loom that gives dizzying speed in the creation of a selvedge. I decided to try it on my workshop. A small widdle was made from a wooden pancake spatula. In the improved version, the handle is wrapped in a strap, because the edges – although not sharp – dug into my hands. The shuttle initially…

I planned to post some photos of my looms to illustrate the story of their creation, but uncle Google does such wonders with searches that I didn’t want to give him any more reasons to mix and match. People looking for information about looms and weaving might be horrified… I’ll just tell you that initially the looms consisted of a few joists, which were the subject of mockery by a certain Lord…

  • I INVITE YOU TO THE WORKSHOPS

At the beginning of March in Poznań I will have the pleasure of leading a workshop on weaving selvedges on a bardek. Agnieszka Jackowiak is responsible for the organization. The course is cleverly divided into a basic and advanced stage. You will be able to learn how to weave both plain and patterned selvedges, the secrets of which so many people are curious about 🙂 I refer you to the Hobby-wełna website, where you can find out more details.

  • Patterned selvedges

I get questions about how to weave patterns on a bardek. Especially for those interested, I decided to prepare a pseudo-guide. Supposedly, because it certainly won't be professional 😀 When you delve into the subject of weaving, you are amazed. The wealth of patterns and colors of fabrics is just the tip of the iceberg of delights available to everyone. Somehow these threads cross. Not by themselves - someone...

  • Selvedge on sticks

The lack of a bard is not a problem. I present a selvedge woven on two sticks: One of the sticks is a half-harness, to which half of the warp is attached. When it is lifted, a shed is created. The second stick – slightly thicker – separates the threads, but is not attached to them. The red thread only prevents it from falling out. This thicker stick is located exactly…

  • Weaving step by step. Selvedges – miracles on a stick

Every now and then someone asks me how to weave. Sometimes it's just a little advice, sometimes someone wants to know how to start, and sometimes someone wants to know everything 🙂 You can find a lot of interesting information and videos on the Internet. However, there seems to be a lack of materials in Polish. I decided to write an instruction manual for those interested in weaving. It's done entirely my way, and since…
