I'm still learning

I'm just jumping from one YouTube video to another and I'm finding a ton of interesting stuff. Some phenomenally clever chick is showing the principles of weaving on a horizontal loom. I wish I had thought of those obvious solutions. Her method of putting on a half-harness is much simpler than the one I saw in Professor Turnau's book.

A horizontal loom is a distant dream for me, but a horizontal loom will probably fit here and it's easy to make - after all, one of the first textile inventions 😀
But how am I going to hunt sticks now? ;P

I wanted to add a photo to illustrate my brand new craze, but there are too many of them on the Internet. It's worth typing "backstrap loom" into an image search engine. And typing "inkle loom" can also find many inspiring images 🙂

  • Weaving step by step. Selvedges – miracles on a stick

Every now and then someone asks me how to weave. Sometimes it's just a little advice, sometimes someone wants to know how to start, and sometimes someone wants to know everything 🙂 You can find a lot of interesting information and videos on the Internet. However, there seems to be a lack of materials in Polish. I decided to write an instruction manual for those interested in weaving. It's done entirely my way, and since…

  • Vertical looms – creating the warp.

Today, during the Biskupin Festival, I finished a long-hanging fabric and my vertical looms are finally free. I also had an idea on how to simplify the creation of the warp. The edge selvedge worked well in the case of the apron, but it will not be needed in all cases. In addition, the warping and weaving of the edge selvedge with the addition of the actual fabric to the warp weft…

  • Vertical weight looms

I planned to post some photos of my looms to illustrate the story of their creation, but uncle Google does such wonders with searches that I didn’t want to give him any more reasons to mix and match. People looking for information about looms and weaving might be horrified… I’ll just tell you that initially the looms consisted of a few joists, which were the subject of mockery by a certain Lord…

  • Express weaving

I once came across this interesting video – a clever weaving technique on an inkle loom that gives dizzying speed in the creation of a selvedge. I decided to try it on my workshop. A small widdle was made from a wooden pancake spatula. In the improved version, the handle is wrapped in a strap, because the edges – although not sharp – dug into my hands. The shuttle initially…

  • Patterned selvedges

I get questions about how to weave patterns on a bardek. Especially for those interested, I decided to prepare a pseudo-guide. Supposedly, because it certainly won't be professional 😀 When you delve into the subject of weaving, you are amazed. The wealth of patterns and colors of fabrics is just the tip of the iceberg of delights available to everyone. Somehow these threads cross. Not by themselves - someone...

  • Backstrap loom

Have a backstrap and make a backstrap… Backstrap is actually a term for a belt with which the weaver attaches to the fabric being created. It provides comfort above all – even distribution of the warp tension 😉 So, to weave on a backstrap, you need a backstrap, which is best woven on a backstrap 😛 And if you don’t have a backstrap, too bad – you have to use…

  1. Thank you for your kind words.
As for the advice about poles, it's wonderfully misguided, because I've always avoided (hyper)markets. Besides, I lived in a district that was a drinking den at night and a DIY Mecca during the day 😉 (Stores with good products and sellers.) And now the markets are out of my reach – about 80 km away? But the forest is close…
